No type of truffle is poisonous. The name truffle derives from Ancient Latin, “terrae tufer”, (“tuber” in Classical Latin, which means “lump of earth”, reflecting the actual physical look of a truffle. Truffles grow in calcareous soils, or cl;ayey-calcareous, in conjunction with certain other plants, according to the type of truffle. The main participant in truffle hunting is the dog, who after proper training, can locate truffles by their smell only, and dig them up carefully, using their paws. Truffles are used exclusively grated, and raw.
