Oltrepò Pavese Historical Wine and Food Tour
Strolling through Oltrepo’ hills means passing by historical villas, small villages and fortified castles that once belonged to noble families such as Malaspinas and Beccarias, and reveal a rich and lively past. During this tour, while tasting the most distinctive wines, you’ll be given information about history and traditions that characterized the area during the centuries. Starting from Milan or Pavia, you’ll be driven to the small village of Montu’ Beccaria, where Vercesi family owns a charming, historical building that in the past had been a castle, a convent and a church. While tasting its own-produced wines, you’ll be informed about the complex and fascinating history of the place. Lunch will be held in a typical restaurant, whose owner specializes in cured meat aging and offers a menu with dishes of the Oltrepo’ tradition.
In the afternoon, the tour will continue at Castello di Stefanago, an estate surrounded by 331 acres of land, of which 44 are vineyards. The rest is forest, orchard, and farm land. The owners know this traditional integrated eco-system is tailor made for organic farming and quality wine production.
